As Big Fish's Artistic Director, Melissa has worked over the years to insure an elegant continuity to each line we've introduced. Her energy and tireless commitment to our mission shows with every new item and edition we produce.

Barbara Kurgan has led a varied career in photography, visual display, decorating,
product design and development and branding. After art school, she became a fashion
photographer and then established her own company, BK Studio, which for several
years produced, art directed and styled interior and product photography for such
clients as House and Garden, The New York Times Magazine, Neiman Marcus, Dewars,
Pottery Barn, Target, Cowtan and Tout and Brunshweig & Fils, among others.
From there, she became the Interiors Editor at Home|Style magazine and then at Elle
Décor, shooting some of the most wonderful homes around the world.
More recently, she joined Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia as Deputy Creative Director
and then as Vice President and Design Director of Martha Stewart Furniture with
Bernhardt. Currently, she works as a consultant to the home furnishings industry for
branding, product design and creative direction.
Ever since she was a child, Barbara has been passionate about collecting and discovering
the beauty in everyday objects. She brings her eclectic sensibility and a sophisticated
eye to her collaboration with Big Fish.
